Stuart J. Starry

The Bluegrass Companies and its affiliate, Contemporary Classic Homes*, are the culmination of a family legacy of building. Stuart Starry founded the businesses based upon the teachings of his now decease father, John Starry, who was a building contractor his entire life. Having grown up in the building industry, Stuart has firsthand experience in all phases of the process, from the foundation to the finishing touches. After attaining a law degree and pursuing a legal career, Stuart “came home” to the building business. Stuart is supported by a talented group of designers, administrators and craftsmen who can bring your vision to paper, then make it a material reality. His primary mission is to construct a home which will form the beautiful backdrop of many happy and joyous memories for you and the ones you love. STUART J. STARRY was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on January 18, 1961. His father was a building contractor, specializing in the construction of single family homes. During his youth Mr. Starry worked with his father on numerous construction projects. Mr. Starry has years of experience in all phases of single family residential construction.

Mr. Starry is also educated as an attorney. He graduated in 1983, Cum Laude, from the University of Southern California, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. He was also inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honors fraternity. He received his Juris Doctor in 1986 from Vanderbilt Law School. In 1986, he joined the aviation section of Beirne, Maynard & Parsons in Houston, Texas. He successfully represented American Airlines in O'Carroll v. American Airlines, 863 F.2d 11 (5th Cir. 1989) cert. denied, 409 U.S. 1106 (1989) and Baugh v. Trans World Airlines, Inc., 915 F.2d 693 (5th Cir. 1990). In 1991, He joined the Houston firm, Fleming, Hovenkamp & Grayson. There, Mr. Starry argued the landmark case Hodges v. Delta Airlines, 44 F. 3rd 334 (5th Cir. 1995) (en banc) on behalf of the plaintiff, which overruled his previous victory in Baugh v. Trans World Airlines.

In 1992, Mr. Starry was married to Mary Shannon Charles. In September of 1997, Mr. Starry established his own practice and continued successfully until December of 2003. During that time Mr. Starry grew his law practice to employ 6 full time and 2 part time employees, and frequently had annual gross revenue exceeding $1 million. During his 17 years of law practice, Mr. Starry began to acquire, remodel and manage a number of rental properties in the central city of Houston, TX. In the process he also acquired several lots which became attractive building sites for single family homes.

In December of 2002, Mr. Starry and his wife, Shannon, had their first child. Mr. Starry soon decided to change careers and lifestyles. He proceeded to wind-down his law practice in 2004 and began preparations for entering the real estate market in greater force, as a real estate investor, builder, and manager. He currently owns Starry and Associates, Inc., which is the corporate parent of “The Bluegrass Companies,” and the managing general partner of Contemporary Classic Homes, L.P., a legal entity which built homes from 2005 through 2007.   Starry and Associates, Inc. currently does business as “Contemporary Classic Homes” and “Bluegrass Custom Homes.”  Starry and Associates, Inc.  is engaged in residential construction as ”Contemporary Classic Homes” and “Bluegrass Custom Homes.”  It is engaged in real estate acquisition and development as “Bluegrass Development.   It currently associates one broker and two agents as a real estate brokerage: “Bluegrass Properties.”   Starry & Associates, Inc. also manages Mr. Starry’s rental properties under the assumed name “Bluegrass Property Management.”   The Bluegrass companies have concentrated their business in the Central Houston Market, including projects in the Heights, Shady Acres,  and Heights Annex subdivisions.
